People commonly think of MMA or Mixed Martial Arts as being synonymous with UFC style cage fighting, but there is a lot more to it than that. Karate traditionally included knees, elbows, throws and joint locks. In Kensho’s Mixed Martial Arts curriculum students to learn to flow across the ranges of combat from kicking to punching range to knee/elbow range to grappling range. This is a similar concept similar to Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do (JKD).

Kensho’s Chicago Style Mixed Martial Arts Curriculum includes a blend of  some of the coolest martial arts!

Our curriculum has been developed and proven and refined over more than 35 years to develop a street smart, practical and useful range of self defense and fighting skills.

Here’s how it works

Mixed Martial Arts - MMA training

We start with Boxing and Kickboxing skills. Here we begin to develop our physical conditioning, strength, flexibility, movement, speed and timing. Beginner or seasoned pro alike, you’ll learn the skills to throw your punches & kicks with knockout form and power so you’ll be prepared if you ever need to defend yourself.

Next we begin to build on our basics adding Muay Thai, JKD and Savate along with weapon techniques from Kali and Filipino martial arts. If we limit ourselves to only one style, we become more predictable and one dimensional.

Training in our Boxing, Kickboxing, Karate , Savate, Muay Thai, Kali/Eskrima and Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do curriculums independently, we preserve the culture and origins of each art and are able to absorb the essence of each. Students earn belts as they progress and also earn ranks through instructor level in each of our root arts.

Mixed Martial Arts training helps develop strength and flexibility. Our training not only helps us to stay in great physical condition, but releases stress and helps maintain emotional balance and inner calm. Training helps our students to maintain their edge and be mentally & physically prepared for anything that might come their way.
